Well, since Simon Cowell and Will Smith could not come to an agreement on creating a reality talent show for DJs, CBS Radio declared a partnership with Astralwerks to present “She Can DJ- America”. The DJ competition is a nationwide talent search to find the top female DJ/Producer of dance music in the U.S.

Astralwerks, the creators of the Australian female DJ talent show, have proven success with EMI Music in Spain, France and Italy. Now, CBS Radio, which has stations in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and other major cities, will help select 12 semi-finalists.  The winner will receive a recording contract and will headline a tour through all CBS Radio markets.

 

The DJ competition TV show is not a new concept. But then again, neither are the singing competition shows that are constantly broadcasted. Simon Cowell has already produced and broadcasted over 20 talent shows worldwide. Will and Jada Smith were to join forces with their Overbrook Entertainment Company. According to the New York Post, the show could not get off the ground because Simon wanted top billing on the show’s credits. Apparently the Smiths were not Will-ing (lol) to be second billing. Yet, Simon is still looking for a partner to help create the DJ competition talent show. “DJs are the new rock stars,” says Simon.

 

Off the ground and on to the DJ booth is Master of the Mix. After a successful two-seasons run on BET, Master of the Mix was promoted to VH1. The media powerhouse, Viacom, owns both cable networks, which also possess authority over CBS and MTV. The hip-hop based DJ competition show has partnered with Smirnoff to “bring DJ enthusiasts and turntable purists the reality TV content they crave, offering viewers the only reality-based competition show for the hottest and fastest-growing art form: deejaying,” says VH1.
