Music has been gentrified. Or maybe I’m taking it too far. The Makossa party that started in San Francisco and migrated to the backyard of the Brooklyn hip-hop fashion and art boutique, Fresthetic, is kicking off its fifth summer at the Brooklyn Tap House May 24. The event, Makossa Brooklyn Cookout, intertwines Brooklyn’s best DJs with San Francisco’s Latin Soul Brothers. What makes this event so special is the music selection. DJs at the Makossa event pride themselves on showcasing Latin grooves and soulful beats without playing any current top 40 hits.
