13-year-old phenom, DJ Dwells brings back memories of a young turntablist named A-Trak.
DJ Dwells, of Connecticut (even though he goes to Scratch, DJ Academy in NYC) has won the 2014 DMC NYC Regional DJ Battle on February 1st. His amazing routine captivated the crowd in the first round, which had host Lord Finesse praising his abilities through out the competition. “This kid ‘DJ Milk & Cookies’ has to be in the finals,” said Lord Finesse when he first witnessed Dwells skills.
The young phenom had tough competition with DJ Ease having crowd support, DJ Dirty Digits performing a perfect set and only using vinyls and DJ Roli Rho coming back strong from a 15-year hiatus. But at the end of the night Dwells was proclaimed the winner.
The legendary DJ, A-Trak, at 15, was the youngest ever to win the DMC World Championship in 1997. And if Dwells continues to perform like he did in the NY regional then he might break A-Trak’s ‘youngest ever’ title.
